About

This is the third or fourth, possibly fifth, version of this website.  It was originally created in March of 2005 while Serena and I were living in Alaska as a way for us to keep in touch with friends and family back in the lower 48.  When we moved back, the website became more focused on kid pictures, kid stories, and sparse updates.  Because, really, that stuff is pretty much important to basically no one.  The website also served as a way for us to record happenings for future recall.  Now we’re in Washington and this website has become a strange mix of the previous two functions.  The photograph at the top of the page is of Latourell Falls and its wonderful columnar basalt.

About Serena:

I am a newly graduated pharmacist completing a one year post-grad residency training program and attempting to find a balance between work and family life.  When I have free time I enjoy reading, eating out at new restaurants, spending time outdoors with Scott and the kids, and glass art.  I can be contacted at serena at vonrudens dot com.

Odessa:

She likes to play pretend and make art projects.  She also enjoys reading and throwing parties for her stuffed animals and her morning class.

Leo:

Born December 11, 2009.  He is whiny, demanding, fussy, obnoxious, and disarmingly sweet and cute.  His output (that’s a euphemism for poop) breaks the law of conservation of mass.

About Chibs:

Full name: Chibicabaccabo Lewis Von Ruden

Species: Three-toed Box Turtle

Birthday: November 25, 2001

Size: about the size of a small box turtle

About Scott:

I find it difficult to write about myself without sounding awfully conceited. Granted, I am pretty awesome. Still it seems that when I try to write about myself I always find that what I wrote is pretty annoying. In brief, I’m either in my late 20s or my early 30s, a college dropout, and I am in love with my wife and kids, and many natural things like glaciers and aurora. E-mail me at scott at vonrudens dot com if you would like to contact me.
